Material Examined : 19 speciemens , including 11 adults, 7 sub-adults and 1 juvenile.

Description & Scalation : Body long, compressed. Head distinctly broader than neck. Eye large, with vertical pupil. Rostral small, pointed posteriorly, visible from above; internasals shorter than the prefrontals; 1 loreal as long as, or a little longer than high. 1 preocular reaches upper surface of the head, rarely touches the frontal; 2 postoculars; temporals 3+3, rarely 2+3; Scales smooth, in 21:21:15 oblique rows; vertebral scales distinctly enlarged; supralabials 8 ( 3rd to 5th in contact with the eye ); infralabials 9-11, first 3 or 4 touching the first pair of genials; ventrals 255–269, strongly angulate laterally; subcaudals 122-130, paired; tail long; anal entire.

Coloration : Coral red, orange or grayish brown above, uniform, or some scales edged with black that they form black thin cross-lines on the body and tail, red or yellowish below, usually with a series of black spots on each side. Head with black spots, lip scales cream or white. Indistinct black line from behind eye to angle of mouth. Juveniles are bright orange with, small irregular black spots on the body, pale orange below.

Natural History : A rear-fanged snake, nocturnal and arboreal in habits. Found in forested areas, also in human habitation, such as the thatched roofs of houses. Mainly feeds on frogs, geckos, lizards and small birds. Constricts its prey, mild venom can paralyze small prey. If provoked inflates body vertically, vibrates tail and strikes repeatedly. Bites repeatedly while handling, bite is painful; swelling takes place around the site of the bite for half an hour. Not much known about its breeding biology, juveniles are seen in the month of June. Grows up to 1.3m.

Distribution - India : Endemic to Andaman and Little Andaman Islands.
