Tiwari's Wolf Snake Material Examined : 1 adult. Description & Scalation : Head flattened slightly broader than neck, body slender, eye entirely black with vertically elliptic pupil. Rostral triangular, wider than high, visible from above; internasals as long as wide; prefrontals slightly longer than broad; nostril between two nasals, anterior one larger than posterior; loreal longer than high, in contact with internasals, not touching eye. 1 preocular reaching upper surface of the head, touching the frontal; 2 postoculars; temporals 2+3; scales in 17:17:15 rows, smooth; supralabials 9 ( 3rd just touching 4th and 5th in contact with the eye ); infralabials 9, first 4 touching the first pair of genials; ventrals 210-237, angulate laterally; subcaudals 61-102, paired; anal divided. Coloration : Purplish-brown above, with indistinct yellow raticulations, belly white. Lip scales brown. Head shields brown with whitish irregular patches. Natural History : A liitle known snake. Terrestrial, according to local inhabitants this species is arboreal and nocturnal in its habits. Mostly seen in the vicinity of human habitations; also seen near forest streams and forested tracks. Not much is known about its feeding habits, but like other wolf snakes it must be feeding on geckos, frogs, skinks and small lizards. According to local inhabitants, often enters houses to eat chicken eggs. Nothing is known about its breeding biology. Grows up to 70cm. Distribution - India : The species is known from the Central and North Nicobar Group of Islands and from an isolated record from Mayabunder in North Andaman Islands ( type locality ).
